The National Intimate and Sexual Violence survey (NISVS): 2010-2012 reports 37.6 % of New Mexican women and 33.3% of New Mexican men experience “Contact Violence, Physical Violence, and/or Stalking Victimization by an Intimate Partner” in their lifetimes.

They report several other types of Domestic violence including Psychological Aggression as 48% for New Mexican women and 49.1% for the men (The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey:2010-2012 State Report, n.d., p.142, 149, 159, 164).

Although the 17th annual National Domestic Violence Count Report of 2022 was performed on a date containing lower than average numbers due to the pandemic after the original lock down and the date also coincides to a low spot in the annual cycle of abuse. The 24 programs gave the following statistics: “409 adult and child victims of domestic violence found refuge in emergency shelters, transitional housing, hotels, motels, or other housing…” Other “non-residential
supportive services related to legal needs, housing advocacy, transportation, mental health, public benefits, and more” were received by 184 victims of domestic violence on that one day. The request for emergency housing to leave dangerous situations were not met by 63% due to lack of resources. (7th Annual New Mexico Summary Domestic Violence Counts Report, n.d.).
